It’s a sad day for fans of the show “Wild N’ Out” as Nick Cannon has been fired by ViaComCBS for his Anti-Semetic comments. Cannon made the comments on his podcast, “Cannon Class”, and did not apologize after receiving immediate backlash. Cannon talked about many prominent anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, including “the Rothschilds, centralized banking” and “the bloodlines that control everything, even outside of America.” He insisted on the fact that he could not be anti-Semitic and called for Black people to reclaim the term “Semitic”: “You can’t be anti-Semitic when we are the Semitic people… That’s our birthright. We are the true Hebrews.”
As a member of the Jewish community, and already having one of my favorite football players in DeSean Jackson display his Anti-Semitism through social media posts, it saddens me that this type of behavior would continue. Nick Cannon, who was one of my favorite actors and his TV show was something I enjoyed, is now someone who makes me feel hurt and disappointed for showing his ignorance to the Jewish community.
ESPN’s Elle Duncan said it best: “There is no hierarchy when it comes to bigotry. Racism, sexism, anti-Semitism. They are all despicable behaviors. They are all disgusting and as such should all be treated in the same vein.” As a society, I hope each and every day we can take these mistakes and move forward towards full equality. Nick Cannon will soon realize his mistake and hopefully he will learn from it.
