Leviss’s Recruit Spotlight: Shedeur Sanders
I know my last recruit spotlight was the son of a famous athlete but Shedeur Sanders is the newest recruit to commit. Son of Primetime Deion Sanders, who was also his high school coach, Shedeur is a 4 Star QB from Trinity Christian High School in Texas. The 6’1”, 198 lbs Pro-Style QB is the 14th best in the nation for the class of 2021.
Sanders has had an incredible high school career at Trinity Christian. In his first three seasons, he‘s thrown for 8,925 yards and an impressive 123 passing TDs to just 19 INTs. He’s also only lost 2 games in his young career.
Now as I said earlier, Shedeur Sanders just committed on July 13th, but his choice has me absolutely baffled. He chose to play at Florida Atlantic University in the Conference USA. This school is probably best known for where Lane Kiffin relaunched his career but Kiffin just left to take the Ole Miss job for this season. In addition, Sanders had plenty of offers from top programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Michigan, South Carolina (where his brother plays) and Florida State (where Deion played). In his commitment video, he said he wanted the opportunity to play early, but is getting to start as a freshman under a what will be a second year coach really worth giving up the opportunity to play on a national stage? I frankly thought FSU would have been a great choice, being that their QB situation has been horrific. It’s a truly bizzare choice of school for a top prospect. Being that he still has another year of high school, maybe he’ll come to his senses and flip to somewhere better.
